As details come out about the unidentified plane incident during Reagan's lying in state, it becomes clearer and clearer that Reagan had the right idea about handling incompetent conduct by flight control officials - they ought to be fired.

The mystery plane was actually carrying Kentucky governor Ernie Fletcher. The transponder on the plane malfunctioned while in flight. As required, the pilot advised the FAA of this malfunction. The FAA never notified the military, almost causing the downing of a civilian aircraft, much less a civilian aircraft carrying a sitting governor.

Heads should roll.
