Common Dreams, a ne'r-do-well front group for the Democratic agenda, which, if you couldn't tell by the name, is a nice euphemism for "Communist Propaganda," has also filed a complaint with the FEC against the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, claiming it to be, well, a front group for the Republican agenda.
A quick Google search will show that FEC complaints are nothing new, and usually moot by the time they are dealt with by the agency. However, when the focus is such as it is now, with the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth completely and successfully questioning the only qualification Kerry has held out for being commander-in-chief, the auspices of an FEC complaint stink of an inability to confront the debate. This especially smacks of incompetence when it is a debate that Kerry, as the candidate, has created. He just miscalculated, or misunderestimated, if you will, his ability to deal with the Pandora's box of truth once he forced the issue into the public eye, and now wants a quick way out. The legal route is a good route when the facts are unfavorable. As an attorney, I know. When the facts are damning, argue the law. The legal rules are there for a reason, but in the realm of politics, where perception is reality, and events move faster than rules, the prospect of gaining any advantage from what is perceptively a "whine" attempt at subuding the opposition through legalistic means is foolish.
This commentary on Kerry's decision to file an FEC complaint has absolutely nothing to do with the substantive merits behind the complaint. I happen to believe that Kerry's complaint has no such substantive merit, but regardless, to do so is to throw what should be a question for the electorate into the hands of bureaucrats - and the electorate know that. Kerry's response, through a surrogate, as usual, is amusing
"John Kerry is a fighter and he doesn't tolerate lies from others," spokeswoman Stephanie Cutter shot back at President Bush's spokesman.
I guess John Kerry must have an alarmingly dangerous case of self-hatred, then. Or maybe he just tolerates lies from himself. Either way, he is unfit for command (huh....sounds like a great book title).
