My co-worker (a Bush supporter) shared with me an interesting conversation she had with her neighbor, who is a fervent Bush hater. Her neighbor's daughter "learned" from one of her high school teachers that if President Bush is reelected there will be a draft and it will be for both men and women. Apparently, this naive classroom of students believed the teacher and became angry and afraid. This happened at Oakland High School in Murfreesboro, TN. It makes me so angry when teachers use the classroom to impose their political views, no matter what they may be. I'm all for encouraging discussion about current events -- our kids need more of that -- but not when it's one-sided and promotes lies.

I have outstanding bets with four guys from different parts of this country (and one from Europe) about this. We were all at dinner in late May, and all asserted confidently that if Bush were re-elected, he would definitely impose conscription within two months of the election.

That astounded me. Such an opinion is not based in reality. I took the bets, and just smiled at them. Easy money. (Plus I intend to gloat just a little next time I see them after the first of the year.)8/29/2004 08:48:16 AM|||Anonymous|||It's worse than that Billy. There is a bill to reinstate the draft, but its sponsors are all far-left Democrats.
