The United Nations has earned itself an eternal entry in my list of Most Useless National Organizations. It continues to live up to its title. Here's some perspective.

It is estimated that the UN Oil for Food scandal cost anywhere between $10 billion and $15 billion in money laundering to the former dictatory of Iraq and the Baath Party. Let's be nice, and assume the damage done is in the lower end of the range - say, $11 billion.

Let's see what else costs $11 billion.

Oh, it seems that Hurricane Charley is estimated to cost $11 billion. That's a lot of damage. A quick mental exercise of preference and perspective allows us to view the UN in its proper, and earned, light. Here's a pictorial example of the damage that the UN has done. Just imagine it's little Iraqi children instead of Floridians, and you're there.

Why is no one steaming mad over this scandal??
