9/20/2004 11:15:54 AM|||Sarah|||The Moore household is recovering from a sad football weekend. Maryland and Vanderbilt both lost away games in overtime. Then, the Titans and Steelers got crushed yesterday. So sad.
So, there's lots of talk about the CNN poll, the Gallup poll, the Pew poll (my personal favorite for juvenile reasons), etc. Why have the pundits not been clamoring to discuss the most important poll of the past week ... the mock election held at MTSU? Rumor has it that the MTSU student body has incorrectly predicted the presidential victor in every election since Dewey (no reference link because I'm completely making that up). The tally for Kerry was 268, with Bush receiving 261 votes. Nader got 21 ballots, and Badnarik pulled up the rear with 5 votes cast by students who were undoubtedly confused by the catepillar ballot (it plans to evolve into a butterfly by November). Let's do the math. Out of the 25,000 students walking around the MTSU campus, only 555 students took the time to vote. I understand that this was a mock election, but I would hope that more students would take a moment to cast their vote before picking up their Chik-Fila (sp?) or Pizza Hut. The real test will be to see if more than 2% of these college students vote on November 2. From the intense vibes of apathy I'm picking up all over campus, the chances aren't good.
