Wow! I assumed that Boris Yeltsin has slipped into a permanent alcohol-induced coma years ago, but I'm pleased to read that he is alive and criticizing the dangerous proposals just put forth by Putin.

President Putin is eyeing a very disturbing power grab. Maybe the former KGB man is seeing his chance to relive the good old days. I know that President Bush looked into Putin's eyes, "saw his soul," and knew they could work together. I look at Putin's eyes and see a man who most likely has killed with his bare hands. I understand his desire to destroy terrorists, not negotiate with them. He truly does want to protect his people. However, his methods will not have good outcomes for the people of Russia.

And, speaking of Russia, did you catch the speech made by the runner-up in the women's U.S. Open last week? The match was held on September 11. And, to paraphrase, she said, "You lost thousands of innocent lives three years ago. My country lost the lives of hundreds of children three weeks ago, also to terrorists. The United States must continue to lead the way in the fight against terrorism and never give up. The world counts on you." You go, girl!!
