It seems to me that Kofi Annan should keep quiet about matters of world safety. I do find it rather amusing that Annan's defense of France, Germany and Russia vis a vis oil-for-food involves the use of the term "banana republic".

Annan's defense of oil-for-food should be viewed with much skepticism. This is the equivalent of the thief with the crowbar caught on the front porch of the house, exclaiming "I didn't do it!", with a pile of loot in the back of the pickup truck, and his friends still rummaging about inside for cash.

Just don't check what's buried in the back yard.

UPDATE NRO has a great piece on the utter hypocrisy that is the UN Oil-for-Food investigation.
