According to Drudge, Don Imus has, whew, finally conceded that George W. Bush will likely win the election. In addressing the Imus statements on Meet the Press this morning, Joe Lockhart confidently conveyed that he was sure that Imus would be back on Kerry's side after a few phone calls to his morning show.

This sounds like a slap in the face to Imus. I've never been a huge Imus fan - I don't think he's terribly inciteful, and don't find him terribly entertaining - but the man does command a huge audience, and it would serve the Kerry campaign well to treat him with some modicum of respect.

In short, I think Lockhart made quite the gaffe this morning, which is surprising for someone who got practice defending the antics of Bill Clinton for all those years. Perhaps he's just been worn out.
