One of my favorite moments in the debate came during the discussion of Bush's tax cuts, and Kerry's pledge to rollback tax cuts for those making over $200,000. Kerry told the crowd (I'm paraphrasing here since I don't have the debate recorded for transcription): "Looking around this room, I can tell that maybe only three of you make over $200,000."

How can he tell? Did he spot two guys wearing fine Italian suits and a woman sporting Jimmy Chu (sp? -- I don't own any) shoes. Did he regonize a few of them from his skiing vacations in Aspen?

Was he really saying, "You people are a bunch of unkempt schmucks with whom Teresa and I would never dine. It is clear from your cotton/poly blend clothing and your SuperCuts styles that you are not people of wealth and refinement."? That's what I read between the lines, anyway.

UPDATE -- OK, I missed the rest of the quote because I was discussing the ridiculous statements with my friends. Kerry mentioned that Bush, Gibson and himself were the three people to whom he was referring. Still doesn't change the fact that he was making assumptions about his audience. Michelle Malkin made the same observation on her website.
