Power Line does the rundown of what Arafat's life was really about. I have never seen a terrorist's life given so much false praise.

Yes, he outlasted multiple Israeli prime ministers. That is, of course, because Israel actually holds elections.

Yes, he fought for the Palestinean people. He did so by funding and directing attacks on women and children.

Yes, he "led" the Palestinean people. He only bilked them out of billions in every conceivable currency.

Yes, he won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1994, in the midst of his career of killing, having the scalps of several Israeli athletes and American diplomats under his belt, and countless women and children. Now the Nobel Peace Prize is a pale mockery of its former self.

Can you imagine chronicling bin Laden's life like this? Or Muammar Ghaddafi's? Or Saddam Hussein's? It is an act of absurdity. President Bush was right to push Arafat to the side. The last ditch attempt for peace by Clinton in 2000, where the Palestineans would have received 90% of their demands, which was rejected by Arafat, showed the futility of the terrorist's existence. He existed for no reason but his own enrichment. Arafat is not a Palestinean patriot, and a man with this much blood on his hands ought be reviled by all the civilized world.

UPDATE Jed Babbin says it better.

UPDATE Jeff Jacoby one ups Jed Babbin.
