We were on our way out of the Washington area yesterday around noon eastern. Rush had just come on when ABC News broke through with the alert that there was a aerial threat, and the Capitol and White House were being evacuated. Tinges of 9/11 shot through my thoughts, an episode of deja vu, really, as we both lived there at the time. Two fighters were clear overhead, as well as the Blackhawks that initially intercepted the wayward plane. A commercial jet had just taken off, and was increasing its altitude to the west. Nothing from our perspective appeared to be approaching the city. I understate my reaction, but those were a tense 8 minutes, as both Sarah and I constantly looked overhead, trying to see whatever was the threat.

The thoughts of that day were as clear as they had ever been. Let us not forget, and let us not capitulate to those who believe the War on Terror is not a war, but a mere interruption to the social agenda they now pursue. They must be confronted and defeated.

UPDATE Peggy Noonan has a great piece on yesterday.

Did you get excited at the retribution the U.S. will get to exact on some other third world country? Who would we invade this time to defend our precious and much maligned freedom? But, alas, it was just a errant pilot and a student. Oh well, I guess you'll just have to stay tuned to Fox News to find something else to fear.
