5/18/2005 08:35:00 AM|||Nathan Moore|||The Senate has just opened...
Despire Harry Reid's request, Frist is sticking with starting with Priscilla Owen. In response, Reid is refusing to meeting in committee on the other judges during the debate on Owen.
Teddy Kennedy is piping up, babbling on about some other district judge slots without nominees. It's an apparent attempt to show that the Republicans are insincere in their efforts to fill judicial positions. Not well done.
Frist says yes, I know, and we start with Owen. Apparently Teddy has an out-of-date executive calendar. How embarrassing!
The Dems, through Ted, are trying to force easier, more acceptable judges. No dice.
Reid is pushing, hard, for closed negotiations, and compromise on the judicial votes. I sure hope Frist says no. He's gotten good at it. He's still good at it - nice jab as to the unprecedented use of the filibuster. Now explaining the GOP position.
Reid now explains that "we are following the rules". Now the GOP are breaking rules...ok.
Teddy woke back up from his hangover, and now speaks. He's shaking - must not have had the morning scotch. Apparently, Kennedy doesn't know the rules.
I was concerned that this opening might have been a skit for a prearrangement to deal with the nominees. I'm glad it's not. The fight is on.|||111642411764682121|||Senate Showdown Begins
