I am listening to Larry Elder's radio show today. It's my practice when Rush is on vacation to go to the All Talk website and find a different station to stream for those three hours. Of course, it's difficult to find a station that isn't playing Rush during his time block.

Anyway, Larry Elder mentioned a bill that has been proposed in New Jersey to ban smoking in cars (I've been looking for a link, but haven't found one yet). The motive behind the law is supposedly one of public safety, as those who are smoking are distracted from driving. I contend that there are several other instances of more dangerous hazards on the road. Some include:

1. Multiple teenagers in the same car

2. Women who determine that the entrance ramp to I-40 is the ideal location on which to apply mascara (yes I'm referring to you, woman with the red car and really big hair)

3. Cars with Massachusetts tags (manuveuring around The Big Dig does not, unfortunately due to my driving preferences, lend itself to Nashville travel)

4. Elderly drivers who can no longer see over the steering wheel who go flying through a red light on Lebanon Road causing you to slam on your brakes even though you clearly have the green arrow to turn left from Briley Parkway and and leave you with enough adrenaline running through you for the next fifteen minutes to kill an elephant with your bare hands.

5. My husband (I kid because I love)

I think that smoking is a disgusting habit and I try to avoid having a direct shot of exhaled cancer fumes from hitting me whenever possible. However, I am not in favor of dictating whether or not people can smoke the nasty sticks in the comfort of their own cars. This is as silly as the proposed bill in my fine home state of Maryland (Montgomery County ... it's always Montgomery County) to ban smoking by those who live in apartment buildings or duplexes. Yes, this is the same county that banned Santa from the Christmas Parade.
