Ben Cunningham is (temporarily) taking over the groundskeeping duties over at South End Grounds. This post succinctly covers the difference in liberals and conservatives.

1- Citizens, who have more income and assets than average, can not be trusted to be caring and charitable toward their non-family, fellow citizens. Government must therefore use the tax system to take some of their property for the benefit of those who have less income and assets than average.

2- Citizens, who have less income and assets than average, can not be trusted to make decisions about their own personal welfare. Government must therefore provide goods and services which they would not otherwise provide for themselves.

Trust in and control over one’s fellow man carves the ideological divide. We have the former and don’t care about the latter. The Left lacks the former and demands the latter. You must either accept positive and negative liberty or must wholesale reject liberty as a concept.
