Sarah's Thoughts
Who Needs the Hippocratic Oath?
A doctor in New Hampshire has had a formal complaint issued against him by one of his patients. What did he do? He told the woman that she is overweight and needs to take steps to improve her health. Gasp! Isn’t that the doctor’s job? Maybe the doctor should just decide, “I probably shouldn’t tell her that I found this tumor on her lung. She might get upset that her travel plans will be delayed.”
I saw an interview with this doctor on Fox and Friends this morning. He is indignant about this complaint, and I don’t blame him. He also said that a recent survey of pediatricians showed that somewhere between 60-70% of those doctors do not confront parents of overweight children.
We need to take responsibility for any health problems that are self-inflicted and thank those who want to help, not sue them for making us feel bad.

It’s that kind of charitable attitude that probably got the doctor filed against in the first place.
