Funny, some of us try to drive traffic to our sites by writing well and being interesting. I suppose Mr. Bander gave up on that approach. Regardless, I have visited Forward with Whoever for the last time.

If you use the comparison to often and dare I say to "liberaly" it looses its meaning. Just like when the Black Liberals would call everyone a racist during the 80/90s, now when Sharpton or Jackson says anything nobody cares. Similarly the Religious fundies have screamed to the rafters about God will harm punish you if... that people are starting to be turned off from their message.

Hilter was a horrible tyrant who destroyed the European landscape and tried to anihilate the Jews/Gypsies/Gays and Communists. Nothing Bush or any other president has done has given me any incline that they would do the same.

I prefer to compare Bush to Lenny from of Mice and Men, well meaning, but just too dumb and strong for his own good.

Everything in moderation.

I'm a conservative and I compare Bush to Hitler on a regular basis. Why? Because the comparisson can be effect at show just how much we have to be on guard. I'm sure the Germans were not initially aware of Hitler's design on the Jews. They supported him because he made the trains run on time. But look how easily he subverted a whole nation. If it happened once, it can happen again. Foll me once shame on you. Foll me twice, shame on me! What's wrong with learning from mistakes?

You're right people do compare Bush to Hitler, and usually Conservatives are offended. I think its wrong/counter-productive when Liberals do it, and the same goes with conservatives. So the next time you (nathan) finds a quote of a Liberal comparing Bush to Hitler, I will be happy to post a comment critical of that liberal.

s it now fair game for people to compare and contrast Bush to Hitler

Tell me you're kidding. People compare those two pretty constantly.

If that was the point he made (that gun bans lead to an at risk citizenship), there would be no controversy, it was in bringing up the Nazis that pushed it over the line. Like it or not, any reference to the nazis will ultimately conjure up images of the holocaust. I mean hell, Hitler wasn't all that bad, he did turn around the German economy, but if a candidate came out saying that he wanted to model our economy after Hitler's economy, do you think people would listen to him explain his thoughts? No, the moment you say Hitler or Nazi the Holocaust comes to mind and nothing else can be rationaly discussed.

Perhaps in comparing/contrasting gun laws, you should look at more modern day nations like Canada or England and see the good/bad caused by them. Personally I don't care about guns, I work next to people who are packing heat and it doesn't bother me, conversly I have no desire to carry a gun or really even to fire one. So perhaps its a cultural difference of opinion, I don't know. All I know is that comparisons to the Nazi regime are played out by both sides, and it lowers the value of a debate.

Sean,

I did not read Mr. Wylie's comment to compare the voters of SF to Nazis but to suggest that the gun ban places individuals at the mercy of government. In this he has point. Gun bans suggest that society places a higher value on the preference for some generalized protection for society than it does for my right to protect myself.

Now reasonable people can debate this but one should not attack Mr. Wylie for a legitimate point. You may feel safer in a theoretically gunless society but that is small comfort to me if Perry and Dick or Charlie and the family come knocking. At that point, the possibility that law enforcement will solve the crime is of little concern to me.
