DNC Chairman Howard Dean issued a written statement against the racial attacks that have been thrown at Michael Steele recently. His statement read:

“I oppose any effort to make an issue of a candidate’s ethnicity in a political campaign, including in the Maryland Senate race”

Not particularly strong, but some acknowledgement is appreciated.

But, Dean’s statement also included the following:

“I also call on Chairman Mehlman to join me in condemning Republican secretaries of state who continue to make it harder for African-Americans around the country to exercise their right to vote.”

There is documentation that Steele was called an “Oreo” and an “Uncle Tom”. Dean shoots back with more unfounded accusations that the secretaries of state are out to get black voters. Crazy thing … I thought they were just following state laws.
