Should we kneel in awe and reverence or just laugh?

  1. John Hutcheson Says:

actually, neither. Mr. Hart, says sensibly, ‘My years in the Senate and as co-chair of the Bipartisan Commission on National Security had convinced me that, unless Democrats provided real leadership, Americans would never receive the honest and open debate about Iraq that our country deserves.’ Democrats have been sadly lacking as the opposition party - either voting to go along with the President out of fear of looking unpatriotic or claiming that they were mislead. It is time for Democrats to reclaim the role of the loyal opposition - not just doing the opposite of the party in power, but offering checks and balances to the Republicans.

Mr. Hart, like many people, made a stupid mistake. He hosed his political future, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have any credibility or that his words are now suspect, anymore than Newt Gingrich being laughable because he had an affair with HIS intern.

I, and I suspect you, don’t want to be judged by a mistake or by mistakes I made years ago. I may have to continue paying for those mistakes (a la Hart), but that doesn’t mean my worth as a human being and thinker ended at the moment those mistakes were made.

    John,
I never actually thought he was a great thinker, pre or post Monkey. I wouldn’t expect the Democratic leadership to listen to him anyhow, especially on the heels of what Pelosi and Kerry have said in the last day.

Anyhow, it was just a little joke. Lighten up! =)
