Nathan Moore's Thoughts
Ford
The old joke about Ford is that it stands for FixOrRepairDaily. I can attest to the appropriateness of that to cars. I doubt the clever old fella never considered the joke would apply equally to elections
Ford’s court complaint says the Senate discriminated against her and other black voters in her district because of their race and denied them the right to vote. The Senate took an initial vote Tuesday to unseat her.
The court action puts on hold a GOP-led effort to overturn the Democrat’s election in September in Memphis, when she took over the Senate seat her brother, John Ford, held for 31 years. All Republicans and one Democrat voted for the measure.
“I can’t move forward,” said Sen. Ron Ramsey, the Republican leader who sponsored the resolution, which was expected to sail through on a vote today. “I am disappointed … but that’s all I can say at this time.”
What’s funny is that Ophelia has no reservations about denying the voting right of the black people who voted against her. It’s obvious that she is not only playing the race card, but is attempting to muddy the issue of her stolen election by playing 52 card pickup with the entire race deck.
Ford beat Republican Terry Roland in the September election in Memphis by 13 votes. At least six of those were illegal, cast either by convicted felons, in the name of dead people or by someone living outside the district.
An additional 134 votes are questionable to Roland, who said those votes were cast by people who live outside the district and by people who did not properly sign ballot applications.
In her complaint to the court, Ford says Roland does not prove the questionable votes are illegal and that the Senate vote hinged on “unproven residency and mistakes caused by election officials.”
The Fords have gotten sloppy. Fixing elections used to be so much easier in the old days when there was less scrutiny and opponents were more easily intimidated. The real loser here is actually the Tennessee Democratic Party and Ophelia’s nephew, who I hear is running for the US Senate. I’m rather curious what inanity TDP Chairman Bob Tuke will spew to spin this one.
UPDATE Bob Krumm correctly notes that the Shelby County Commission would name Ophelia’s replacement once Ophelia Ford ceases her racist attacks and the federal government stops meddling in Tennessee’s affairs. At least for a year, that would give the Republicans another vote in the State Senate.
