Fair Criticism

Filed under: Iraq, Politics, War on Terror
The Moose is Loose!

I’m watching C-SPAN right now, and Ron Paul, Republican Congressman from Texas, seems to also want to surrender in Iraq. I want my liberal purveryors and fair and balanced critics to note that I condemn Paul along with John Murtha.

It’s not a partisan thing. It’s just that most surrenderites live on the Democratic side of the isle.

OMG Nathan, criticising a Republican who rejects the GOP talking points…that takes some series cojones. I think I’m going to make a bold move and criticise Joe Lieberman for his unqualified support of the President’s war-making abilities…now I’m fair and balanced too :) But I’ll join you in condeming some of Ron Paul’s remarks, such as these…

Fear is constantly generated by politicians to rally the support of the people

Environmentalists go back and forth, from warning about a coming ice age to arguing the grave dangers of global warming.

It is said that without an economic safety net– for everyone, from cradle to grave– people would starve and many would become homeless.

It is said that without government health care, the poor would not receive treatment. Medical care would be available only to the rich.

You seem like a smart guy, Nathan. I can’t believe how you get spun.

The GOP has been planning to “cut and run” for some time now. They are just waiting to “cut and run” a little closer to election time. What Murtha and others have proposed is in NO WAY different than plans the administration has. It is just that the plan by Republicans to reduce troops doesn’t get the fun CUT AND RUN label.

The top American commander in Iraq has drafted a plan that projects sharp reductions in the United States military presence there by the end of 2007, with the first cuts coming this September, American officials say…after criticizing Democratic lawmakers for trying to legislate a timeline for withdrawing troops, skeptics say, the Bush administration seems to have its own private schedule…””

Here’s something you should read, Nathan, and perhaps you can issue a retraction on your site about Murtha:

‘An article in Sunday’s editions misinterpreted a comment from U.S. Rep. John Murtha, D-Pa., at a town hall meeting in North Miami on Saturday. In his speech, Murtha said U.S. credibility was suffering because of continued U.S. military presence in Iraq ,and the perception that the U.S. is an occupying force. Murtha was citing a recent poll, by the Pew Global Attitudes Project, that indicates a greater percentage of people in 10 of 14 foreign countries consider the U.S. in Iraq a greater danger to world peace than any threats posed by Iran or North Korea.’

Why haven’t you approved my comment from over 28 hours ago?

  4. Sean Braisted Says:

Don’t take it personally Brittney, I’ve noticed that moderated comments never get approved…which used to tick me off when I would spend 30 minutes writing a response only to have it relegated to the land of never to be seen.

  5. Nathan Moore Says:

It’s approved. I’m sorry about that. I don’t have a “moderation” policy, just a flag of any post that contains more than one link. I think Sarah even had one stuck in the moderation queue.

I don’t think I would take my positions from “think progress”, but that’s a personal matter. There is a distinct difference between what Bush has been talking about and what those like Murtha want to do.

The GOP take is to withdraw troops as progress is made. Murtha, Kerry, et al, want to withdraw troops based on a timeline, irrelevant to progress on the ground. That’s disasterous.

Nice try, guys, but it doesn’t stick. I do find it amusing though that I’m the one who has allegedly been “spun” (I mean, redeployment? come on).

    As usual, thanks for writing.
