Nathan Moore's Thoughts
Hillary Clinton, Faux Feminism, and Why Democrats Must Support Obama
I have achieved peace in our time. The Democrats’ civil war can be over tomorrow.
If you’re among the identity Democrats, conflicted as to which disadvantaged group most deserves your support, you must choose Obama, and there’s an excellent reason why.
Hillary Clinton is a faux feminist. Outside of her education, which is impressive and admirable, every other life advancement she has made has been because of a man. The irony comes home to roost - if there is ever anyone who should be wailing Tammy Wynette’s greatest hits at campaign stops all around America, it’s Hillary Clinton.
Let’s start in the present, and proceed backwards. Her husband is calling her opponent a “fairy tale”, attack dogging him, and may have been the instrumental reason for her winning New Hampshire. He is stumping everywhere on her behalf because he’s more effective than she is at communicating her own message. He is part of a greater strategy of presenting a third Clinton term (not exactly the stuff of feminist empowerment). Her husband is the only reason she was able to scalawag her way into a New York senate seat. And, without her husband, she never would have had a platform for her views as first lady, or be able to claim those eight years without a security clearance as “experience”. In 1993, he also gave her his health care plan to bungle, which she fouled up in spectacular fashion.
All throughout her adult life, she’s relied on her husband to help her find something to do. And she’s still doing it now, everyday, on the campaign trail. It is mind boggling that any truly independent woman would consider her a feminist icon. What’s the appropriate term for a fake feminist? An Aunt Margaret? Maybe Miss June?
Outside of throwing her maiden name into the mix a couple years back (then, abandoning it), there is very little Hillary Clinton has done on her own. Barack Obama? I don’t like his views, but I think he has arrived where he is today due to his own hard work and natural ability. If you truly want the first president from a “disadvantaged” group, and merit matters even a little bit, you have but one true option - Barack Obama.

[...] As an example of what Andrew Sullivan was speaking of in this article about Republicans saying nice things about Obama, Nathan Moore has written a very well thought out post explaining why Democrats should vote for Obama instead of Clinton. He calls Mrs. Clinton a faux feminist. If you’re among the identity Democrats, conflicted as to which disadvantaged group most deserves your support, you must choose Obama, and there’s an excellent reason why. [...]
