Obama Texting … Nothing
As Jerry Seinfeld pioneered the concept of a sitcom about nothing, Barack Obama is pioneering the candidacy about nothing.

One voice can make a difference. Make that voice yours!
What that voice would say, however, is a mystery, skulking in the shadows with whatever sort of “change” the Obama candidacy is poised to bring about.
There’s more to say on these “change” shenanigans. Last night, with DirecTV remote firmly in hand (Sarah was at my mercy), I began flipping through the vast array of channels, and finding little worth watching, stopped on C-SPAN (the original or the deuce, I do not recall). Obama’s final pre-Super Tuesday rally in Massachusetts was being aired live. Speaking on his behalf was the governor of Massachusetts (whose vocal cords, alarmingly. appear to be helium based), and John Kerry, and Ted Kennedy.
Then, of course, was Barack Obama. All spoke about change, ad nauseum, as if the word itself had substantive meaning. None spoke as to the content of that change, what the change meant, or whether the change was, at its basest, even good.
It is frustrating to me that so many individuals are latching onto the Obama change-wagon without the faintest idea as to where the trail leads. Lemmings everywhere are crying foul.
Any simpleton can hold a sign and chant “Change! Change”, as well as any fool can yell “Fire! Fire!” in the theater. This is not to say all supporters of Obama are with him for no good reason (for instance, locally, Sean Braisted, unabashedly, knows what Obama stands for), but so far his broad-based appeal leaves reason in the dust. The day you cast your vote for primarily emotional reasons is the day your voting rights ought to be revoked.
The sixties, which Obama invokes both explicitly and implicitly, has enjoyed the time-honored tradition of mythic morphing. The decade as remembered is not the decade that actually happened. The presidential poster-child of the decade was a mediocre one, who should be blamed for the Cuban missile crisis rather than praised for defusing it. He was followed by a disastrous presidency that should can be blamed for all the fiscal problems we now face, who pioneered the largest American foreign-policy embarrassment in our history that did not have to happen (the present-day exaggerations of silly people notwithstanding). Hippies effected change only in their minds. Save the civil rights advances, which were significant, the rest of the decade was an historic disappointment.
The point being that Obama does in fact offer the sixties, which means he offers nothing. The civil rights battle has long passed the decade by. The only thing left is the fiction. Let them have it, but we must defeat it.
