Don’t Play Dumb

The Moose is Loose!

Come on, now. It’s obvious why you are shouting out the name Barack Hussein Obama at every opportunity. You want voters to think he’s a Muslim and therefore scary and dangerous. Don’t play these cutesy little games.

I’ve listened to various radio talk shows over the past 24 hours (as is my norm) and I’ve heard statements from the hosts such as:

“What if I started saying John Sidney McCain? What’s the difference? I’m just saying his full name.”

“Why is he so embarrassed by his middle name? If he is so upset about people using it, maybe he should change it.”

“It’s the liberals who want to think there is an ulterior motive here.”

Really? Do you actually believe that? I actually get kind of embarrassed for you while listening.

I was in Target a couple of weeks ago and the cashier offered this opinion:

“I’m so tired of Obama. I hate hearing him talk. I heard he’s a Muslim and his real name is Hussein. His first name sounds like Osama. I bet they’re related. We don’t need that in this country. He would probably help the terrorists.”

So, take comfort, those who enjoy shouting “Hussein” from the rooftops! Your secret plan is working.

There are MANY reasons that I would never vote for Barack Obama for president. His middle name is not one of them.

I found it particularly obnoxious when Bill Cunningham was being interviewed on NPR, and he tried to claim that using Obama’s middle name was a sign of respect. He cited Franklin Delano Roosevelt (better known as FDR) and John Fitzgerald Kennedy (better known as JFK) as other examples. Somehow he failed to mention Johnson, Nixon, Ford, Carter, or Reagan - some of whose middle names I rarely hear and others I don’t even know. That wasn’t the offensive part, though. What was offensive was that he himself had just referred to “Bush” - not even a first name - only a few sentences before! He was so obviously lying about his intent that I’m sure even a pacifist NPR host might have felt tempted to punch him. Here’s the clip if you don’t believe me. Peddling hate is bad enough, but peddling hate and then insulting the intelligence of those who call you on it is even worse.

I completely agree with you. I was watching 60 minutes the other night and a voter was saying he just wasn’t sure about Obama. When asked by Morely Safer, “Why?” He said, “Oh, I heard that he’s supporting Muslims and his middle….” When told by Safer that those were completely untrue accusations, the guy looked lost. He said, “No, he didn’t realize that.”

It’s not people playing dumb, they don’t try to find the answers beyond what “they hear!” It’s what keeps the Sensationalized/Mass Media in business.
