I completely agree with you. I was watching 60 minutes the other night and a voter was saying he just wasn't sure about Obama. When asked by Morely Safer, "Why?" He said, "Oh, I heard that he's supporting Muslims and his middle...." When told by Safer that those were completely untrue accusations, the guy looked lost. He said, "No, he didn't realize that."

It's not people playing dumb, they don't try to find the answers beyond what "they hear!" It's what keeps the Sensationalized/Mass Media in business.

I found it particularly obnoxious when Bill Cunningham was being interviewed on NPR, and he tried to claim that using Obama's middle name was a sign of respect. He cited Franklin Delano Roosevelt (better known as FDR) and John Fitzgerald Kennedy (better known as JFK) as other examples. Somehow he failed to mention Johnson, Nixon, Ford, Carter, or Reagan - some of whose middle names I rarely hear and others I don't even know. That wasn't the offensive part, though. What was offensive was that he himself had just referred to "Bush" - not even a first name - only a few sentences before! He was so obviously lying about his intent that I'm sure even a pacifist NPR host might have felt tempted to punch him. Here's the clip if you don't believe me. Peddling hate is bad enough, but peddling hate and then insulting the intelligence of those who call you on it is even worse.
