I remember when I whined incessantly because three of my friends were going to a concert and my mother (who seemed oblivious to my ardent love of all things Joe) said we were too young for a concert. I immediately slammed the door to my room and went to bed with my NKOTB sheets...

Sarah, don’t let Nathan act like he is doing you a favor by taking you to the NKOTB concert, he’ll be fulfilling a childhood dream. Oh, and that Spice Girls concert rocked the house!

Ah, but, my dear sister, the truth shall set you free.

And, yes, "Personal Jesus" definitely had a beat you could dance to.

You may not be aware of this, since you had recently begun college yourself, but when I was a high school junior I had a boyfriend for two weeks. He lived in Montgomery County, and our relationship existed almost entirely on the phone. Anyway, he was a huge Depeche Mode fan...so, unfortunately, I cannot hear Depeche Mode these days without gagging a little bit in memory of my silly youth...

Catherine -- You are probably right. It was more my friends that were fans of Depeche Mode and The Cure than me ... although that "Personal Jesus" was a catchy ditty! Angst was never my thing. But, really, to admit that I went from NKOTB to every possible offshoot of New Edition (Bell Biv Devoe, Ralph Tresvant, Johnny Gill, Boyz II Men) doesn't indicate much progress on my part.

And I had to live in a room with her and all those posters.

Hey, Sarah...Depeche Mode? I remember your B-52s fandom, but wasn't Depeche Mode too "angst-y" for your tastes? I mean, really, angst was my department, was it not?
