Nathan Moore's Thoughts
Wright to Obama: Can You Hear Me Now?
Jeremiah Wright’s rambling screed yesterday in front of the NAACP can’t be good for Obama. Jim Henson himself would be proud, and maybe a little jealous, of the array of voices he has mastered. Wright does a mean Kennedy. He’s operatic, too.
Sadly for Obama, Wright spent a great portion of his remarks making excuses for the academic failure of black children in urban schools, focusing on the legitimization of ebonics and the differences in learning styles, as if that somehow explains high illegitimacy rates, fatherless homes, gang appeal, and a victim mentality. Yeah, it’s just that they’re different, and the white man doesn’t understand.
Barack Obama has lost the reigns on his mentor. Throwing the pastor under the bus seems to have rankled the relationship. Wright has scheduled a bona fide speaking tour, and is set for the National Press Club today. Presumably the message will be the same. Anyhow, it is clear that Jeremiah Wright no longer has a vested interest in a Barack Obama presidency.

Rev. Wright constantly talks of the need for fathers to stay with their kids, he speaks out against gang violence regularly…how does speaking about the differences in the African-American and European-American way of learning/thinking take away from this?
Its amazing the contortions you’re going through to feign moral indignation Nathan.

[...] Nathan Moore also offers his opinion on Reverend Wright’s most recent ramblings. Nathan’s observations are a lot closer to a little world called reality. Perhaps he could introduce Sean to this place. But maybe not. After all, we Republicans do have a vested interest in the continued stupidity of Democrats. [...]

Say what?
Right. And with a national audience, with millions watching, he focuses on exactly what I talked about. Blame. And not self blame.
I don’t know how morally indignant I am. All I can do is listen to what Wright actually says. Saying one good thing here and there does not authorize one to be a completely idiotic race baiter everywhere else.
The larger point is, that I made in the last paragraph of my rather short post, that Wright is now an actively dynamic liability to Obama. A flock of obese albatrosses would be lighter.

I’m not sure that a speech about how differences are not deficiencies qualifies as ‘race-baiting’.

A speech (and we’re talking NAACP, not the Press Club debacle) where he discussed how the brains of white people and black people are inherently different, and that explains why black kids are good at hip hop while white brains are more analytical?
My goodness, David Duke had to be nodding in approval on that one.
