Sarah's Thoughts
Look Who Else is Racist!
Anti-tax activist Grover Norquist has been catching a lot of heat for his comment that Senator Obama is “John Kerry with a tan.”
First of all, how dare he insult Kerry’s fine conservative record (relatively speaking) by comparing it to that of Obama?
Second, I cannot believe that Norquist injected race into this election! I thought we were going to get to November without anyone mentioning that McCain is white and Obama is black. Haven’t we gotten beyond the point in this country where … oh, wait –
“Is Obama Black Enough?” — Time magazine, February 2007
“I’ve just seen the first black president” — Chris Matthews, 2004 following Democratic National Convention
“Obama Becomes First Black Presidential Nominee” — ABC News, June 2008
“Obama: Black Like Me” — The Nation, October 2006
“Would Obama Be ‘Black President’?” — LA Times, February 2007
“Is Barack Obama Black or Biracial?” — CNN, June 2008
Would it have been OK if Norquist had said, “Obama is just like John Kerry except that he’s black.”?
I know — if you are a liberal and you mention that Obama is black, you are only doing it to celebrate the great progress made in our country. (I also am proud that in this country in 2008 you can make a strong bid for the presidency regardless of race or gender … I just shudder at the thought of this particular black man becoming president. That has everything to do with his Guevara/Marx-sounding redirect and nothing to do with his race.)
Norquist is a conservative and therefore his injection of skin color must be racist. His job is to remind racist whites that Obama is black. The fact that he endorsed Bobby Jindal for VP in the same interview is not important. Jindal is not a real person of color because he is a Republican.
You know what? I’m just going to say it. Bobby Jindal is Newt Gingrich with a tan.

You know what is kind of funny? Had John Kerry been elected in 2004, chances are much of the same economic and foreign policy problems would still be there, and Conservative Republicans would be in a position to capitalize on the growing resentment against the Government.
Unfortunately for you, Democrats are now in a position to possibly have their own liberal Ronald Reagan with a tan.
