Nathan Moore's Thoughts
There You Go Again
Race is certainly a factor in this year’s election. Democrats just can’t stop bringing it up
Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius publicly considered the possibility that Sen. Barack Obama’s race might be a factor in this year’s presidential election during an appearance here Tuesday.
“Have any of you noticed that Barack Obama is part African-American?” Sebelius asked in response to a question about why the election is so close. “That may be a factor. All the code language, all that doesn’t show up in the polls. And that may be a factor for some people.”
Funny how this sort of backwards thinking didn’t fit into the equation when he was up by 8 points. Does the enlightened Kansas governor think the American electorate had been watching the campaign on the radio until the last couple of weeks?
The obvious answers as to why the election is so close right now (McCain/Palin are sure to pull away at some point) are too painful for the average Democrat pol to confront. This was supposed to be their year. They were supposed to win the White House, pick up seats in the congress, and maybe pick off a state legislature or two. That the Obama campaign is rudderless, message-less, and in a state of general disarray hits a little too close to home. It HAS to be those ignorant, racist SOB’s on the other side of the aisle causing all of this closeness. It cannot possibly be that Obama is having trouble even riding his own coattails.
As is the usual, when things go awry, Democrats inject race. There are still real racial issues in this country to be dealt with for sure. Unfortunately, the real issues become difficult to see when the Democrat Party keeps burying them with minstrel straw men.download it s a very merry muppet christmas movie movie

I can’t believe the Democrats are playing the victim card [or positing that race might be a factor in an election with the first black candidate for President in American history].
You don’t see that kind of victim mentality out of the McCain campaign when it comes to the press, “sexism,” ageism, or POWism.

I quote Nathan: “It HAS to be those ignorant, racist SOB’s on the other side of the aisle causing all of this closeness. ”
No, that’s not what I’d say, actually…there are racist SOB’s on both sides of the aisle, all down the middle of the aisle, etc…
I know of some Democrats (mostly older Democrats) who are struggling with the Obama nomination because of race. People have old beliefs and prejudices and things that they are used to, and that is hard to change.
That being said, I believe that polls are a very inexact science, and I pay little attention to them one way or the other. I think there are plenty of reasons that people are leaning towards either McCain or Obama, and for some of them, yes, race is an issue. And, yes, I think this applies more to older voters than younger voters…And, guess what, older folks tend to vote in greater numbers than younger ones…So, what I’m saying is, race is not the main factor here, but I’m not throwing it out as a factor completely.

Let’s make a bet here and now….. I’ll say that if BO loses the race for POTUS, the reason from their camp will be “racism” alone, not that he lacks the talent, experience, or credentials for the job, or that he was beaten by what Americans believe to be a better candidate….just that America is still a mean racist country…….what do you think?
September 17th, 2008 at 6:47 pm
Rick - whom do you mean by “the Obama camp”? - if you mean his campaign staff, well, I hardly think that his campaign team would decry racism alone as the reason for a loss, as that would be stupid.
Or by “camp,” do you mean his supporters? If you had read my post thoroughly, you would know that I believe there are many things different about the two candidates besides their race, and plenty of reasons that voters lean towards one or the other.
But I am sick of people claiming that Democrats are hysterical reactionaries “playing the race card” every time race is mentioned as a factor. Guess what? Obama is black. It certainly isn’t the only significant aspect of this race, but it’s definitely true…and in this country, with some folks more than others, that definitely means something.
And…it’s possible to have nuanced views of elections, and see race as a partial player, without shutting off your brain to other lines of thought. Hm, maybe that just makes me sound like a crazy, thoughtful, intelligent, educated, elitist Democrat or something…

So far, the most prominent references to race in the primaries, as well as in the general election have been from the Obama campaign … usually in terms of the Obama campaign accusing anyone, and everyone of racism, who disagreed with Obama, or challenged his lack of credentials, or his lack of experience, as racism. Obama has also vocally predicted and anticipated racism, when nobody actually said or did anything racist. Obama also used the race card against Bill Clinton. And, now democrat, and Obama supporter Kathleen Sebelius is once again using racism as an excuse, in case Obama doesn’t win in November. But, what about the other side of the coin? 90% of Blacks in America are voting for Obama simply because he is black. This is racism also, but it always gets swept under the carpet.
No Wright, no Farrakahn, no Rezko, no Pfleger, no Ayers,
no mean Michelle, and, NOBAMA !!!

Agreed… racist comments have come only from the BO/Dem side of the fence. Farraro hit it on the head, if he was not black, he would not be where he was. The 90% of the black population idolize, the libs empathize, and BO is not qualified.

Yes Catherine, the staff, Rangle, Sharpton, and all the principles of BO’s campaign for POTUS will scream racism in their own various Yes, the victim status will be run up the ole flagpole if BO loses. What else will they say, “He was beaten by a better candidate”, or “He was not qualified”, or “America is to dumb to elect BO”. wait, they might say that one. The only happy campers in the Dem party, if that happens, will be named Clinton

Show me one time when the Obama campaign called someone a racist.

I’m sorry, I thought I tought Sean how to use google,

Though in his defense the author probably doesn’t know anything about racism.

TC,
I’m sorry, I’m still waiting for a link where Obama or his campaign has called someone a racist?
September 18th, 2008 at 2:51 pm
Oh…you mean where they pointed their finger and went “nah nah…you’re racist”? Your right they haven’t. In the imortal words of Marshal Chapmen, “Just a boy in a bubble, staying out of trouble.”
September 18th, 2008 at 9:38 pm
Sean… you mean like BO talking about “people” saying he has a funny name, doesn’t look like the guys on paper money. That alone is BO himself calling others racist, even if no one on the other side of the aisle said anything. Wait until BO gets more nervous about the Bradley Effect as we get closer, and see the racist comments come out of the Lib/Dem world.
If you think any different, tapper off the kool aid. That stuff is not very healthy for you.

Rick, plenty of Conservatives have made issue of Obama’s name and his appearance…have you not seen the jokes about his ears?
September 23rd, 2008 at 3:13 pm
“…have you not seen the jokes about his ears?”
No. Let’s hear it. I need a good laugh.
