Sarah's Thoughts
New American Tea Party, 2009 Nashville Edition
My girl and I headed downtown around lunchtime to watch Nathan and others speak at the New American Tea Party, which took place at Legislative Plaza. I was very proud to be there, and (bias noted) thought that my husband was the best amongst a line-up of great speakers!
The people in attendance were not wealthy Americans who were afraid of losing some of their great fortune. They were not out of touch with reality and considering themselves the next Sam Adams or Benjamin Franklin. They were not closed-minded bigots who didn’t want to see other Americans succeed and prosper.
Instead, the overwhelming majority of people who were at Legislative Plaza today are fighting back against the notion that the government needs to be our parent, financial advisor, and savior. They are people who realize that the politicians who have spent a life in the halls of Congress are completely detached from the people they represent. They are people who want decisions about their lives to be made within their families, at the local or state level when government needs to be involved, and at the federal level as often as possible. I felt surrounded by many libertarian brethen, and it was nice.
Are we greatly delayed in actually caring and making our voices heard? Absolutely. But, better late than never.
Here are a few photos from today’s event:

The crowd seems kind of small. We are such an apathetic people. I am guessing Obama and Pelosi assumed the American people would just lie down and take it. They are probably right.
Maybe we are getting what we deserve.

If I had known it was happening I would have been there. Can’t believe I missed it. This is the kind of thing I have been railing against on my blog and am bummed that I didn’t know it was going on.
I tend to agree with lewis, in a way. But these kind of movements always start small. They can grow and should grow. People I talk to kind of shrug when I try to engage them about this mess. They don’t know what they can do. And most would probably rather watch TV than get involved. But we have to keep trying and be heard. It’s our country. They answer to us in Washington.

I find it interesting that many people, when you mention what is going on in OUR country, say that they would rather not talk about it, because Washington is not talking about hope, but disaster. many just don’t want to hear it…..many just want someone else to drive….and leave them alone…sad in too many ways….

The biggest reason the crowd was small is that consevative thinking people WORK.
Where as the liberal government dependant people who will ride buses to protest about anything they are driven to have WAY too much time to stand around while I work for their next government hand out.
